I survived!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have survived my first semester of nursing school and I apologize for not updating sooner. Christmas happened immediately after I finished the semester and then we left for Florida so it has been non-stop!! Plus, I have been planning my trip to Los Angeles with some friends from school so that's had me wrapped up as well! I leave on the 7th and return on the 10th and I start my new semester on Monday the 12th. It's gonna be a crazy time again!! Hopefully I can survive another semester! haha!!

Anyway I had a great Christmas and had a fun time in Florida with Kris' family. I always love being there especially in the winter... it's an escape from the cold! New Year's was pretty low key this year. We decided to stay home with the girls and celebrate with them. We must have played a dozen games of Clue! Love that game!!

Well that's all I've got for now so take care and I will update as soon as I can!

Until next time...

So pretty!

I was up working on some homework last night with a group of girls and after we were finished I decided to look for new layouts to this place and I found a TON from some truly talented people! What do you think?

I'll update more on school when I get the chance. For now I have to take my daughter to the ortho!!

Hey... SUCK IT!

Yea yea... you can kiss the word of the day goodbye!! *smooches* I don't have time for that crap. What was I thinking? I promise when I do have some spare time I will throw in a WotD... mmkay?

In the meantime... I'm having a hell of a time at school. I have to say that this is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. It's very time consuming and my poor family has had to suffer. Not to mention my social life.

However, I am so happy to say that I have met some TRULY amazing people this semester. I'm so thankful to have met these girls. This is where I give a shout out to my peeps!! Beth, Michele, Holly Ho, Krystal, Stephanie, Linda, Joni, Liz, Kimberly and Leslie! These girls... are THE BEST!! I adore all of them! They are all so smart!! I need smart people in my life!

The hardest thing I've had to deal with so far is my temper toward STUPID people. Now, I'm not saying I'm Einstein or anything, but...I am baffled how some people got into the nursing program or how they are staying on top of everything! It is so hard for me to bite my tongue. And seriously... one day... very soon... I am going to snap. So if you see something on the news that reads a little like this:
"Nursing student stabs fellow nursing students, A.H. and Stoner, in the eye with her pen. News at 11:00." Just know that it IS in fact ME and that I have finally regained a little bit of my sanity.

A shout out to my friend Amanda who just got accepted into the nursing program at Indy and Columbus!!! YOU GO GIRL!! You ARE waaaaay smarter than me! *smooch*

Now... enjoy this post and stop emailing me with complaints you ungrateful little bastards! I'll post when I can!! LOL.

Until next time...

PS... I donated blood today... AND SURVIVED!!!! Eat that bitches!! HAHA!

Okay... now I'm upset

Ya know, after 9/11 happened every one that I knew was very concerned they were going to lose their jobs with the airlines, my husband included. Slowly and surely everyone started to be let go from United Airlines here in Indianapolis... and yes, the airline industry did ask the government for help so that they wouldn't have to let people go. Unfortunately, that help never came. My husband was laid off, his employee stock went from about $10,000 down to the 48 cent check they wasted mailing to him. Not to mention all the long timers that lost their job, their pension, their stock... their lives as they knew it.

What pisses me off is how the government is jumping ALL over helping these mortgage companies and now the insurance company AIG is getting 85 BILLION dollars to help bail them out. WTF? Yes, it sucks that all of these companies are going bankrupt... and yes, it sucks that people are going to lose their jobs. Where the fuck was Bush when my husband lost his job??

I can only imagine that there is money going into their pockets by helping out these companies. If I only had enough time to do some investigating. If anyone knows me well enough, they know I'm the internet search queen and I can find out ANYTHING about ANYONE. Dare me.

*end rant

Word of the day...

Listen, just be thankful I'm even doing this when I have the time! *smile*

Word of the day: Accutane
Definition: a brand of isotretinoin
Used in a sentence: You should never take Accutane while you are pregnant!

I don't really want to go into details about why this is my word of the day other than the fact that I got this question wrong on a Pharmacology exam. =)

Word of the day...

Alright bite me... so I haven't posted my word of the day for TWO days! I've had my nose stuck inside a pharmacology book... not to mention my lab book! So... without further ado...

Word of the day: Shit
Definition: excrement; feces
Used in a sentence: I don't know how I'm going to keep up with all this shit!

Yes, I didn't use the word as it is defined, but you get the point!

Word of the day

So Amanda and I were on the phone today, instead of studying of course, and we decided that every day we are going to post a word of the day and we have to use it in a sentence and that sentence has to pertain to school or family, etc.

Word of the day: iota
Definition: a very small quantity

I don't have one iota what I am doing in dosage calculations.

It's been confirmed...

...my life really is over!

This is my first full week of school finished. In this first week I have to read 16 chapters and take TWO tests for each of those chapters. Yes, two. A pre-test, and then a post-test, which is graded. Mind you, I like having the pre-test because it let's me know where I need more help. However, when each chapter has a gazillion pages and both tests take about an hour combined to complete... death becomes an option at this point.

Not only did our instructor mention that just because it's Labor Day weekend doesn't mean we don't get to labor over our books. She called it our "Labor Day study plan." I'm so thankful for Labor Day and whatever it stands for because had it not been for Labor Day, I would be so far behind on my studies that I don't think I would make it. And I'm willing to bet my husband and children would miss me. After all, who would make dinner?

I now have five days to get caught up. Wish me luck cause I'm gonna need it. LOTS AND LOTS of it!!

Until next time...

My life... is over

So my teachers have been kind enough to submit the syllabus and calendars today... 4 days early... you know, so I can read through everything and then get freaked the hell out!!! I'm looking through the agenda for my first lab class and I get to the part that reads this:

Wear 2 pc swim suit or shorts/sleeveless top
Bring 2-3 towels, 2 washcloths, razor, soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, comb, lip balm, hair dryer, etc.

What the fuh-hell????? So apparently we are to give each other baths. I'm sorry, but I barely let my husband see me naked, or even HALF dressed for that matter... let alone someone I've only known for three weeks! Yes... this craziness begins in WEEK THREE!!!

And then there's pharmacology... holy hell what did I get myself in to? The syllabus reads like a murder mystery! Cause I know... I'm going to DIE trying to get through this class!

So it's official... my life as I currently know it... is O-V-E-R!! I need a drink!

Until next time...

Books... wtf?

I'm totally going to have to take a picture of this mess to show you all what I'm talking about but I swear I got around 10 books for this semester. For this semester!! And it cost $800!!! I could think of much better ways to spend this money! I think it's disgusting that the school won't share the ISBN numbers so that us students can look elsewhere for the books to get a cheaper rate. I understand that people with financial aid and student loans HAVE to get their books from the school, but what about the people who pay for their school out of their pockets? School starts on Monday and I'm totally stressing. I've already started reading one of my books. I started on chapter 1... with my luck we're heading straight into chapter 4. Bastards. However, one of my professors already posted the schedule so I know what I'm reading we will be working on come Monday morning!!

Until next time...

Move is complete

Okay so as you can tell there are a TON of new posts that have just appeared. Reason being, I previously had a blog with a friend of mine who was getting ready to start school. WELL... she never started and never updated anymore so I decided to come back to this place and use it and abuse it! So from now on, expect to see a lot of posts with me FREAKING out about nursing school. While you are here, you should read some of my previous posts, including my favorite, "I'm going! I'm going!" Good times!!

I'm alive!

I know I haven't posted lately and that's because I've been busy with school and family... and oh yea... getting part of my foot CHOPPED OFF! Okay so it's not nearly as traumatic as I want it to seem... but I did get the bunion on my left foot removed and it's been a long healing process. I got my stitches out today... it wasn't that bad. I told the nurse that I am a horrible patient and not to take it personally if I kicked her in the face. Haha... I'll still be in my walking boot for about another five weeks. Some GREAT news came from the appointment today... I can actually SHOWER now! How awesome is that?! Say goodbye to bath time!!

So let's talk chemistry. My midterm grade was an A. I believe I will have an A in this class or a high B when all is said and done. I half assed my research paper because there is only so much you can find on ascorbic acid... which is Vitamin C for those (like me) who had no idea. :)

Next Tuesday I go for my first day of orientation for the nursing program. On this day I will get my schedule, buy my uniforms and supplies and I think also my books. It's going to be a very expensive day!! I will update when I get back from that!

Until next time...

I'm in!

So I'm on the phone with Amanda R. today and we were complaining about this chemistry class when I was coming up the stairs to the kitchen I heard the mail man close the mail box. Now, I've been waiting to hear back from the Columbus campus whether I got into the nursing program or not. I found out last week I didn't get in to the two other campuses I put in for so you know I was nervous about getting the last letter. So anyway I'm on the phone with her and I'm like "Oh my GAWD the mail man just came" so I waited for him to leave the porch and Amanda is like, "okay get the mail" and I'm like "Okay....." So I open the box and right on top of everything is a letter from Ivy Tech and I scream "OH MY GOD IT'S A THICK ENVELOPE!!!!" So I'm trying to tear this envelope open while on the phone with Amanda and my hands are shaking uncontrollably and the first word I read is Congratulations! so I start yelling I GOT IN! I GOT IN! So yep... I got into the nursing program in Columbus and I'm totally stoked!!!!

I seriously thought all hope was lost because I didn't get in to the other campuses so now I'm REALLY EXCITED that I got in!! I've heard so many good things about the Columbus campus and even though the drive is going to be a bitch, it really is only ten minutes longer than it takes me to get to Lawrence!! Anyway, wish me luck!!!

Chemistry

WTF? That's all I've really got to say about the subject. I'm extremely annoyed that I have to take this class. I thought taking it online would be the easiest way to go. What the fuh-hell was I thinking??? I just have to keep telling myself that I WILL survive this damn class!!!

I'm going! I'm going!

Okay so last Monday I somehow convinced my friend Amanda that it would be a great idea to donate blood. A church down the street from my house was having a blood drive! Knowing that my blood type is O, therefore I rule, I thought it was our duty to donate! Mind you, this was after inhaling about 7 spicy garlic chicken wings, an order of delicious onion rings and enough pop to rot all y'all's teeth. Anyway, we show up, sign in and fill out our questionnaire. Quick question, why did they want to know if I've just had sex with a man who has just had anal sex with another man? Like I was really going to be honest about that one! Ha! Anyway...

They get me hooked up and I start drippin' some blood in my bag. I'm feeling pretty good about what I'm doing. My blood could actually help save someone's life. Awesome right? So I was just about done when I turn to Amanda and tell her my stomach was feeling a little nauseous. Right after I tell her that I started to feel a little dizzy. So I tell the lady standing next to me, who is now working on another person that I’m starting to feel dizzy. She has the audacity to look at me and say, “Oh okay” and then continue working on the other person. So as soon as she turns around I say, “Nope…. I’m going! I’m going!!” And there I was, my world starting to turn fuzzy and grey. My eyes start rolling back in my head and the only thing I can think to say is…. I’m going???? Where was I going exactly? According to the guy who flipped me back in my chair, threw a wet nap on my forehead and neck and who urged me to “DRINK THIS” Gatorade, I was going no where but staying with him. I said, “Nope, I’m going!” He says to me, “I don’t know where you think you’re going but you’re gonna stay right here with me.” Before I knew it, and trust me, I don’t even remember this happening, but the needle was out of my arm and I was told the color was returning to my face. Mind you, when the dude flipped my chair back all I could see were my toes and they looked like little white, mini, uncooked sausages. It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.

After I ate my TWO oreo cookies, (which to be honest really is the only reason I donated… they give you juice and cookies when you’re done!) I moved to the cookies and juice table with Amanda where we were STUCK between two old biddies who were discussing all of their ailments with us. Mind you… I was *this close* to death a few minutes before and this old lady tells me, “Last year I donated blood and two weeks later I had a stroke.” A stroke???? GREAT! So now I’m expected to DIE NEXT WEEK! Is that what you’re telling me! If I had any energy I SWEAR I would have smashed my oreos in her face. Actually no…I would have opened a new package and smashed those in her face. My cookies weren’t going anywhere but HOME WITH ME!!

Until next time…
Stacy

ps... I had to fill out an "incident report" and they finally called me yesterday to check on me. Apparently to see if I've had my stroke yet.

The home stretch

Well this week is finals week for me. I've already finished my sociology online class and based on the grades I have in there, I will have a B in the class. My other online class, Ivy 101 (which was dumb by the way), I've already received an A. This week I have a final in micro and in anatomy & physiology. I feel pretty good about the ANP one, but not so much the micro final. I have begun studying today and I have until Thursday to take the micro exam. I feel good. Wish me luck! I can't believe this semester is FINALLY about over!!!! Next up! Chemistry! *barf!*
